Introducing the TL3 Recorder from TAP Instruments Ltd

The TAP TL3 is a new Digital Recording System. Designed specifically for High Resolution Marine Surveys, it will fulfil all your needs at a price you can afford.

The TL3 is designed and built by people responsible for the TTS series of marine recorders. They have been designing and building similar systems since 1985.

For the TL3 we have joined forces with Lookout Geophysical of Colorado, to produce a recording system with state-of-the-art hardware and unrivalled specifications, plus a formidable array of software features. Lookout is well known within the industry for its Seiscope QC and project software.

The TL3 is highly integrated and can record up to 120 data and 8 Auxiliary channels whilst only occupying 8U of rack space.

It utilizes hard disk recording with real time data copying to other networked PC's and a Tape archive option to record data to any SCSI equipped tape drive.

The powerful software allows printing of Shot gathers and Line profiles without the need for bulky and expensive thermal plotters and chart recorders. Allied with the recorders small size, this makes transportation and setup easier than ever before.

Main Features of the TL3 Seismic Recorder

·         Optimised for Marine High Resolution and Geotechnical Surveys.

·         Highly integrated – all proprietary hardware for up 120 Analog channels is contained in 2 19” rack mountable units occupying only 8U of rack height.

·         Uses latest Crystal 24-bit delta-sigma ADC set (CS5372/5376A), giving over 120dB dynamic range.

·         Simple yet powerful menu driven setup. No internal programming

·         Sample rates from 2ms to ¼ ms.

·         Fully flexible number of seismic channels, from 8 to 120, and auxiliaries from 1 to 8.

·         Capable of near-continuous recording at all parameter settings.

·         Programmable digital high-cut and low-cut filters – totally predictable performance.

·         True t0 capability.

·         Data can be recorded to multiple sources, including both disc and tape.

·         Fully networked, data can be transferred directly to an independent Processing system.

·         Internal test signal generator, plus automated instrument test and analysis.

·         Multiplexed Analog output, for oscilloscope, continuously available.

·         Software controlled test trigger and time break for easy shooting of test lines.

·         Graphical display of streamer depth using bird data.

·         Dual screen GUI, for simultaneous viewing of logging, control and QC.

·         All components can be easily accessed and replaced in the field.

·         Cable Tester, with integrated software.

·         Shot gather display, with powerful display options.

·         Histograms show channel averages in dB or %.  Threshold selections may automatically flag channels out of spec.

·         Spectral displays for monitoring bandwidth at target depth.

·         Line gather windows for single channel profiling, change channel dynamically.

·         Hardcopy plotting to any installed Windows plotter. No need for expensive thermal plotters and chart recorders.

·         Tape archive feature for recording to SCSI tape drives.

·         Additional offline processing available for velocity analysis and stacking.

·         Bespoke equipment cases are available which can be clipped together for easy transit and mobilisation of the equipment.

A example display software screen

The screen dumps below show a Shot Gather window with frequency spectrum and amplitude histogram window and a single channel Line Gather window.

Further windows control the Plot spooler and Tape archive functions and a master QC window controls all the QC software functions.

A example control software screen

The screen dumps below shows the GUI screens used to control Seismic Recording and manual Instrument Test functions of the recorder. Further GUI screens also control Automatic Instrument test, Cable Test and Setup.
